New features, new servers…
Yes, we know we haven’t written for a longer while. This only means we’ve been very busy writing code and talking to strange people (more about that soon). Today, we’d like to tell you about our shiny new servers and some cool new features we’ve implemented.
Shiny new servers
You’ve been complaining about Filmaster being pretty slow. Not just you, actually. Experts did as well. The two new servers – first for PostgreSQL database, second for the web server (Nginx with FastCGI replaced Apache with mod_python), all nicely configured should make a huge difference in performance of the webapp.
We’ll be constantly working on query optimization and smarter caching to make things work even better, but we believe it’s not that bad right now at all.
New feature: commentable external links and trailers
When a trailer is added by some user, everyone can comment on it straight on Planet Filmaster or by entering a special trailer page. The link shows up on film pages as well, making it easy to comment on film trailer.
Another related nice little feature is that you can now view the trailers directly from the activities feed. When you click on trailer image, it grows bigger and you can play the video (same as on Facebook and similar services).
Facebook Like
This one has been added some time ago but in case you missed it here it is: on all film pages like this one there is a small “LIKE” button just below the film synopsis. When you click it, and provided that you are currently logged in on Facebook, you’ll be added to fans of this film and short activity message will appear on your Facebook wall stating that you like this film and linking to its page on Filmaster.
If you are a Facebook user, please use this feature. It’s a great way of telling your friends you like some film and it’s a nice way of promoting Filmaster to them as well.
List of films for each genre / tag
You’ve been asking for it for quite a while so here you are:
Those require some more work to be usable but this is only a preview (we don’t link to those lists anywhere, yet). When we add some more sorting / filtering options and fix some bugs we’re gonna make them more visible.
More, more!
You can browse through the full list of new features in jira (our issue tracker): Filmaster 1.0.7. Isn’t it nice?
New features are coming in 2 weeks time.
If you are a programmer that would like to integrate your service with Filmaster we’ve got some excellent news for you as well: Filmaster API is ready and as soon as we finish documenting it, we’ll write a new blog post about it. It’s gonna be big and we hope you’re gonna like it and use it intensively!
Chao.
